To close our exhibition, “On a Pedestal“, we will run an art workshop for families with children aged 8-12.
The exhibition explores contemporary bust portraiture, modern faces inspired by the classical tradition. The classical busts celebrated gods and heroes, emperors, philosophers and generals. Later, family members were also immortalised in stone and bronze. In “On a Pedestal”, we also see admired characters from history and fiction, friends, family members and even the artists themselves placed “On a pedestal”.
After a tour of the exhibition, the participants will consider… who is missing? The children will be asked, who do you think deserves to be celebrated in art? Who will you put “On a pedestal”? Perhaps a favourite character from a story, a celebrity, your teacher, parent or guardian, or yourself? Working together, parents and children will create a bust of their celebrated person to take home.
Free. Suitable for families with children aged 8-12. No booking necessary. First-come, first-served. Meet in the entrance hall of the State Apartments.
