The Facilities & Events Management Unit was formed in 2004 to provide high quality conference facilities nationwide. With the success of the Unit, the workload increased as the various Government Departments drew on the expertise, resources and infrastructure.
While maintaining the flexibility to respond to a variety of urgent demands, most tasks carried out by the Facilities & Events Management Unit are annual events that can be planned in advance. Some of our annual events include the Easter Commemoration at the GPO, O’Connell St, the National Day of Remembrance at the Royal Hospital Kilmainham, the annual ANZAC Day Dawn Ceremony, the National Famine Memorial Day and the annual Winter Solstice at the Megalithic Newgrange passage tomb.
Recent events include the Dedication of the Garda Memorial in the Dubh Linn Gardens, Dublin Castle, the official opening of Savannah Plains, Dublin Zoo, the 4th Global Botanic Gardens Congress, National Botanic Gardens and the Global Irish Economic Forum, Farmleigh House (see image to right). Our varied client base includes all Government Departments such as the Office of the President, Department of the Taoiseach, Department of Foreign Affairs and other OPW branches and districts countrywide. It is also necessary to liaise with a host of other state bodies such as An Garda Síochána and their Operational Support Services, all branches of the Irish Armed Forces and many City and Town Councils.
We have been privileged to manage some historically significant events such as the Official Opening of the Battle of the Boyne site at Oldbridge, 2008, the EU Accession Day, May 2004, during which 10 new member states joined the EU, and a number of Presidential Inaugurations.
